Our last park day was held at the SCERA park in Orem again. We had a great time last time and had to go again. My fam almost didn't make it since that morning we had a water leak. Best guess is that the water line from the refrigerator busted. Water covered most of the kitchen floor (can you say, "damaged wood laminate?") It also leaked through to two bedrooms, and later into two random spots in the living room. By now (Saturday) the carpets are dried out, our kitchen floor however, does not look super hot. Later in the evening Gabe and I went out for his Birthday. We overate at Tucano's, it was fantastic.
On Thursday I took the kids to the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum. A friend gave us a family pass, which was awesome because otherwise it would have cost me an arm and a leg. The kids had an awesome time, and I only lost track of the big kids once ("Emily Gunderson, please come to the information booth). The museum is filled with dress ups, hands on activities, and pretend play items. While the kids played I watched the employees and volunteers tirelessly pick up toys and return them to their correct places. Oh the thankless job of the toy picker-upper. I felt their pain.
On Friday, after a particularly painful visit to the doctors office (1 hour and 45 minutes wait for a 1 minute consult), I took my kids to the Utah County Fair. My mom came with me, which was fun and my dad met us for a bit too. The kids made crafts, collected candy from the vendors and stickers from the sheriffs departments, watched a sheep judging, and rode a couple carnival rides. We came home both smelly and sticky.
This morning, Saturday, I got up bright and early and headed to Mapleton to run in the Hobble Creek Half Marathon. We were bussed starting at 5:00 am up the canyon, and started the race at about 8:00am. That was a long time to be nervous. The race went well. The first part is downhill, so that is nice, but takes a toll on the old legs. Once out of the canyon it was hot (80 degrees by the end) but still a nice landscape. The most I had ever run prior to the race was 10 miles, so it was a big deal to get past that marker on the run. I finished with a 2:17. I feel pretty good about that, about 10 and a half minute miles average. I'm encouraged about doing it again, and have a increased admiration for those who have finished marathons, not sure when/if I'll do one of those.

I'm impressed with your half marathon and with all the fun summer activities you do with your kids!
I love your summer posts. (I love all your posts, but especially love looking at all the green, lush parks from the summer posts, as this is the extent of green and lush in Utah.) Congrats on the half marathon.
Awesome! I'm so proud! I wish I was still on the bandwagon. That's a great time in my opinion.
