Good Thoughts

Today in church we sang "The Star Spangled Banner." This under respected song really touched my heart today. I also realized I've been singing the wrong lyrics (broad stripes--not bright stripes). I found the 3rd verse (in our Hymnal) especially powerful.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

I've loved singing this song my whole life. I admit at outdoor events I'm tempted to yell the word "Brave" like my high school swim team use to do when we'd sing this before each meet. I prefer a simple arrangement with simple vocals. An organ and a room full of congregation members that I love are preferred as well.

In honor of the flag....

This is my parents house in Orem. For the last couple of years my dad has been hanging up this flag collection on patriotic holidays. I think it is pretty cool.

I think the 3rd verse is very powerful. Especially these days when our countries solders are out fighting for our freedoms and our nation is trying to take God out of everything.

One thing is for certain, this country was founded on the precepts of God. That is very evident when you visit this nation's capitol and all the monuments and memorials.
