1 bum marathon
I finished, but not how I wanted to. It was burning hot, I was hungry, my foot screamed from mile 14 on, it seemed like no one was there to cheer, I had to call my husband twice to tell him I wouldn't finish by my expected time, and when I finally finished (5:28) it was pretty anti-climatic. The finish line got congested really quick with hundreds of kids doing a 1k, so in a matter of minutes of being done, all marathon running was secondary to rounding up kids in the crowd and getting out of there. I had a few good cries on Saturday, swore off running forever, a couple more cries on Sunday, still vowing never to run again, then on Monday as I took my son to an early camp drop off, I saw the SF runners out in my neighborhood and I kind of ached to be with them.
So, in conclusion this marathon was LAME-O and my foot still hurts, but maybe in the very distant future I'll give another marathon a try (certainly not this one, I do not need to see those 26.2 miles again). In the meantime I'll try to get my swim, bike and aerobics on. Hopefully my foot will heal and I can get back into running a couple days a week...because if I'm honest I long to be a runner. I'm slow as tar, but I feel really good about myself when I'm out doing my thing and I'm not ready to say, "I'm done" to that.

Darn. A bad race is bad enough, but 26 miles of it? I'm sure I would've cried too. You'll bounce back soon, though :)
Oh Emily! What a bummer- to work so hard for a bad race. I hope your foot feels better soon. I completely agree that running just feels good-especially when you're done, especially when you have gotten in that runner's groove. Best therapy/anti-depressant ever!
