December Happenings

More than you wanted to know about our December:

-Good Things #1 and #2 wanted to participate in a local Chess tournament. Neither of them are big chess players, but they were determined to be a part of it. The tourney was really well organized and both of them got at least one win and a medal so I think they were pleased.

-Good Thing #1 has been participating in the school choir again this year. The 2 youngest and I went to his Christmas concert and enjoyed watching him.

-One thing I depend on every Christmas is the Baugh family party. The night before we had some sickness in the house. It was a pretty sad night thinking about missing the party (and of course for my sick child). We determined it wasn't fair to get the whole extended family sick (you're welcome cousins), so Gabe stayed home with the two youngest and I took the three older kids to the party. It was a different experience being there with three big kids. The two oldest played the piano for the "talent program." We enjoyed visiting with cousins, cousins kids, aunts and uncles, grandparents, great-grandparents, great aunts and uncles. I missed the rest of my family, but was grateful to be able to take the boys. We even drove to the Manti temple, by their request. It was a good trip.

-My brother Tom and his family were in town for a couple days and we were pleased to join them at the ice skating rink for some good fun. Good Thing #1 had a field trip that day so he didn't come but the rest of us had a great time.
-I took the kids up to Salt Lake City to see the lights at the temple. We had never done that as a family before, so it was a treat. We got there in the late afternoon so we spent some time at the Church History Museum, which the children enjoyed, then we walked around Temple square. A couple of kids were cold, they should have listened when I warned them they would need hats, but overall I think we had a good time.

-For Christmas Eve we partied with the Gunderson's. There were soup and rolls, puzzles, gifts, and an exceptional nativity. Good Thing #4 wanted to be Mary this year. She and I had been talking about Mary and Elisabeth all month. The thing is, there were a lot of little girls that also wanted to be Mary. I tried to set her up for disappointment, lucky for her though, her name was chosen to be Mary. She was thrilled. She immediately got her costume on and kneeled down with baby Jesus in the stable. She was very serious about her role.

Good Thing #1 was Joseph

Good Thing #2 was a wise man

Good Thing #3 was wicked King Herod

Good Thing #5 sat on my lap
-We had a fun Christmas day. Up at 7:30 to open gifts, yummy breakfast, church at 11:00, lunch and good fun with the Baugh's.

And a couple of pictures of the gifts GT #2 got for Gabe and I; two nutcrackers for Gabe and the large musical ornament for me. He won $25 at a Christmas party we went to. I thought it was really sweet of him to spend a majority of his prize money on us.

-My brother David visited for a couple days, and my brother Brad and his family were here for a week. It was great to spend a little time with both of them. While Brad was in town we got to go to Soldier's Hollow. The snow wasn't very slick that day, but we still had a great time tubing.

-New Year's Eve was spent at the Baugh's. We ate some good food and played games. We didn't stay until midnight, but because I'm so fun, I rolled down the windows in the van and we all yelled, "Happy New Year's" on the freeway on the way home.
-Of course I need to mention a few of the usual December things....read Christmas books, read scriptures stories of Jesus Christ, played secret elves to a neighbor, exchanged ornaments with friends, and drew lots of pictures of reindeer, santa and nativities and made all sorts of ornaments and gifts.

It was a great month.
