Gabe and I were ever so lucky to score a trip to NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana, for those who are not aware of their marketing campaign). We were treated to airline tickets, hotel stay and basketball tickets. I admit I was a little unsure that Gabe would get on the plane with me (not a wimp people, he is just so so busy), so it was a GREAT relief when he and I were in the van heading to SLC. We flew in Sunday night and checked into the ever so nice Ritz-Carlton. Monday was spent checking out the French Quarters. We were bummed that Central Grocery was closed but found a decent muffuletta next door at Frank's and some awesome grub a little further down at Coop's Place, mmm still thinking about that jambalaya. Don't worry we also ate a po' boy and and a "heartattack" steak sandwich, as well. It was a nice day. In the evening we went to the Jazz vs Hornets basketball game. We had sweet seats and cheered loudly for the Jazz, who actually won (the Hornets fan in front of me told me (sort of) that the Hornets weren't really trying). Tuesday we ate fried oysters and po' boys at Acme Oyster House, and I grabbed a beignet, another mmm. The hotel had a sweet Fitness center, so I got my runs in and a swim in the resistance pool as well. We also got to sleep in, and I didn't have to stress about keeping kid's quiet while Gabe slept, aah such a nice vacay.
The kid's stayed with Grandma's and had a fun time without us. They had a few requests from us though, besides wanting me to take a "ton" of pictures GT#2 wanted a picture of the Jazz players, the Jazz bear and a bobblehead souvenir and GT #3 wanted a picture of the plane and of the Mississippi river. I did what I could to fulfill those requests. They didn't get a bobblehead, but we did get them an alligator head...and the Jazz bear wasn't there, so I had to settle for the hornet dude.

New Orleans is a really cool place. The buildings were super neat looking. I loved the balconies. The streets had a bit of a Paris feel (it is the French Quarter after all) with open restaurants, street performers (some not that great), musicians and artists. I enjoyed the grub, the carriage ride, my flea market sunglasses find and the sweet hotel. Most of all getting some much needed R and R with my dear husband.
