Spring Break 2013

We took our first ever non Idaho 8 person family vacation over spring break.  It took us two vehicles to get there (one rented) and two hotel rooms to accomodate us, but we had a great time nonetheless.

We spent a night in Grand Juction, Colorado then drove on beautiful I-70 to Denver.  We stopped in Glenwood Springs for a little hike and some fresh air and park play.

The hotel we stayed in was hosting a Jewish Passover party (I couldn't figure out what kind of Prom was going on, lucky I sorted it out with some guests in the elevator).  It was quite the party, trumpets were involved.  There was an Easter egg hunt (and an awesome looking fancy buffet, too bad we didn't RSVP for that) at the hotel which the kids dominated, plus swimming and a gym so it was a nice stay.
On Easter Sunday we visited the Denver temple, did cartwheels, scoped out Gabe's old house in Sedalia and hiked Castle Rock.  We enjoyed playing at a park, too.  Of Denver, Samuel said, "I thought it would be more flashy."

Then it was back to the hotel, where the Easter celebrations had ended and arguing about sharing beds started.  Once asleep though, everyone was good friends.
We had a fun time at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science the next day.
Of this display, Elisabeth said, "Look it's a skeleton helping the zombie.  They're friends."
Before heading out of town the next day, we took a tour of Hammond's candy factory where Joseph was heard to say, "This place tastes really yummy."
The drive on I-70 home was not smooth sailing.  We hit a storm and the van could not drive on the snow.  It was a pretty harrowing couple hours for me as I witnessed semis sliding off the road into cars, blocked the whole interstate, was pushed by a CDOT official and then by his truck, and was finally toed onto the snow plows recently dropped sand, all the while trying to keep it cool so as to not scare the 4 precious children that were with me.  Gabe's car zoomed through the snow just fine and we caught back up with each other and had a smooth drive from there on.  Before the final push home though we stopped for dinner, where Joseph impressed us with his name writing skills, Elisabeth decided she no longer liked pig, and everyone enjoyed the wall by the bathrooms.
Minus the part where I thought I was going to die, the trip was good.  My advice is take the flashing lights, "Road may be slick" seriously.  Elisabeth did call it the best field trip she'd ever been on and I'd have to agree with her.

Other fun things we did this week included:
-Decorating eggs
-Visiting the county of Millard for an upcoming county report
-And attending a Jazz game
