January Happenings

Here is more than you wanted to know about our January.

On New Year's Day while hanging out at the Baugh's we were surprise visited by our West Virginia Cousins. These two took to each other instantly.

On the 3rd my littlest guy had a minor surgery. It was minor for him, major for his worried mom. All went well.

I took the kids swimming at the Lehi pool on their day off from school (the 14th). No one drowned, which is pretty significant since we were there from 12:00 to 4:00. I had been wishing for/considering buying 7 peaks passes for this summer, but taking 5 kids to the pool again this day put me over the edge. I finally decided that I cannot do it all summer. It is too stressful. My kids will have to be content with sprinklers and park fountains.

On Human Rights day we spent the afternoon at the Baugh's. The kids played outside with grandpa and their cousins. I stayed inside and did nothing. It was awesome.

On the 18th GT #3 did his Show and Teach in his kindergarten classroom. We had recently finished reading "Horrible Harry and the Green Slime" in which Harry shows his class how to make green slime. My son taught his class how to make it just like Harry. If you're interested you take 1 cup of corn starch and mix in 1/2 cup of water and 3 drops of green food coloring. You pour it out on a sheet of wax paper and prepare to be amazed. A few days prior to this he had received a token from his teacher after his SEP conference. He finally got to redeem it for a highly sought after mustache which completed this outfit/disguise:

On the 21st we headed to our Elk Ridge cousin's house for a piano recital. G-ma and G-pa Gunderson were there as well. GT's #1 and #2 played their Christmas tunes, I played a primary song, and 4 of Coreen's kids plus herself played. A great time was had by all.

And finally, I celebrated another birthday. The Saturday prior I had breakfast with friends, got my hair cut, and went on a date with Gabe. On Sunday we had our monthly hurrah with the Baugh's where I was treated to gifts from my siblings (thanks guys!) and my parents (thanks mom and dad!). On Monday, my actual big day, I babysat kids, cleaned up various messes, and tried really hard not to yell at anybody. I told my kids that what I wanted from them was obedient children. GT #2 told me he wanted to give me something else instead. His gift to me was the pink card with $1 in it, which we used to pay the pizza guy. GT#3 gave me the purple card plus the orange man and some pens, since I am always looking for one.

Gabe bought me this beautiful arrangement:

And I bought myself an entry to this:

Despite a missing husband, a couple breakdowns by me, a few hurt feelings by the kids, I'd say we had a pretty good month overall.
