September Wrap-Up

Here is more than you wanted to know about our September:

Good Thing #1 participated in his first Pine Wood Derby. His car wasn't one of the fastest. I think Gabe learned some tricks though, so next year we might be a little more successful. We'll have 2 Cub Scouts participating then, I'm stressed already.

Good Thing #4 started Preschool. Our curriculum is centered on play with a little learning thrown in. The first time she didn't want to go which took me by surprise, but by the second time she was happy as can be. The third time it was my turn to teach. Afterwards she asked if she could go to preschool now. I told her we had just had preschool and asked her, "Wasn't it fun?" She answered, "No." Good thing I only teach once every 5 times. In my defense the kids got in trouble for getting into the animal cookies. Normally no biggie, but one kid has diabetes so I was worried she would get sick. All the kids had to spit their cookies out. So, it may not have been the funnest preschool day.

We spent Labor Day in Scofield. The kids wanted to stay 2 nights more than anything. Their wish was granted, this time. We headed down on Saturday evening, after the BYU football game, hung around with my brother's family on Sunday, then spent Monday with my parents and my sister's family. At one point Gabe told the boys to go outside and not come back for an hour. They were encouraged to explore, get dirty, and find something exciting. Good Thing #1 received high marks for returning with this:

On Monday morning the men folk went shooting. My boys were quite happy to be a part of it. GT #2 wanted a picture with the shot gun afterwards. Gabe told him to look tough.

Good Thing #2 finished up soccer. He played pretty well all season. He still needs to hustle a bit. One thing about him is that his name is not synonymous with "hurry." I have to say soccer is getting more fun to watch though. Kindergarten soccer is painful, but by second grade they are starting to get it.

Good Thing #1 has been playing flag football. He has been the kicker and a lineman all season. They have another playoff game tomorrow, so he's not done yet. He hasn't really loved the game. I think he sees that it is a lot more fun to throw, catch, or run with the ball than it is to block some other third grader.

And lest you think I have been at the soccer and football games all by myself this last month, let me remind you that I had these two guys to entertain:

and a third that had likely run off.

School has been good. As far as I can tell the big boys enjoy it. They wanted to join choir this year and have been participating in that. I switched GT #3 to morning kindergarten. It was a smaller class and it allowed me to get into a carpool with my neighbors. He has not been super happy about it. He'll survive though. His teacher did tell me that he is doing fine, but sure likes to tell stories. Those who've been stuck listening to him, probably know exactly what she is talking about.

Gabe has been working insane hours again. Same story, major contract due, must deliver or die trying. I spent the month babysitting, micro managing my children's lives, and trying to be supportive. Did I mention that Gabe was gone a lot?

In other news, I have been having leg problems. Dr. Gabe and his Google degree have diagnosed it as a pinch nerve. This has been stressful. Not only is it painful at times, and terribly inconvenient at others, it means I likely won't meet my goal to run 1000 miles this year. I hate not meeting my goal, not because I'm such a die hard, but because when I feel like I'm failing in so many areas, it is nice to have one thing that I'm actually accomplishing. I guess I'll be looking for some other thing to celebrate. Whatever it is I hope they have a ticker for it that I can add to my blog sideline. Feel free to make suggestions, nothing too hard though. :)

I'm not sure you can get a ticker for this one, but how about "The number of days your children have survived." Now THAT takes real skill, and can probably even be done with leg problems. (Although I have no leg problems right now and I've been pretty close to failing at this one. *Sigh*)

Bummer on your thousand miles. You were so close! Maybe I should run them for you. How many miles a day would that be...

Oh, and you won't have to make 2 cars next year- unless of course you're dying to do so. Budget is only allowing for us to purchase cars for the new little wolves. Everone else gets to buy their own, or-- get this-- refashion their old one!
