I can see how one sock gets lost from a pair, but shoes? I have held on to the black shoe for almost a year now waiting for the other to show up. The pink shoe disappeared a month ago, the "frugal" in me is having a hard time throwing both the shoes out, while the "hate the clutter" in me is saying "kiss those puppies goodbye."

I think you will find them. When Leah was born someone gave me some really cute socks. I lost one of them. When I went to wash all the baby clothes the sock magically appeared.If a sock came back shoes are going to appear sometime.
I have this problem too. I hold on to socks forever, hoping to find their mate. Eventually I end up with an entire laundry basket full of unmatched socks. After several months of this I'll finally bite the bullet and toss them. I'm certain that the next basket full is started by prodigal socks looking for their friends I just sent to the landfill!
We have a couple pairs of kid shoes like that too. I wonder where on Earth they could have gone? It's so weird.
